Th e Nigerian judiciary is constitutionally saddled with the interpretation of laws made by the legislative arm of government. It has, over the years, made a lot of contributions to the nation’s democracy through its adjudication in diff erent matters. However, it seems that some of the judgments passed on corruption cases are apparently biased. An individual who commits the off ence of stealing billions of naira may be given a light sentence while another individual who stole a mobile phone is given a grave sentence like life imprisonment. It is said that those who come to equity must come with clean hands.
In the same vein, judgments delivered by our courts ought to be always fair and just, without partiality and without fear or favour. Th is is necessary in order to instill fear into wouldbe lawbreakers and encourage the citizenry to have confi dence in the ability of the judiciary to do justice at all times. I pray that the case of the notorious billionaire kidnapper, Evans, will not be swept under the carpet, and that justice will be done in that case at least. Ajibola Esther: 09030252734
