Thugs kill DPO, pregnant cop, 2 others in Yenagoa

Gunmen Monday morning stormed Agudama-Ekpetiama community police station in Yenagoa local government area, firing and killing four police personnel.

Though the identity of the seven-month-old pregnant police woman and two sergeants on duty was yet to be identified, the name of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) was given as S.P Ola Rosanla who was said to have been killed in his sleep.

It was learnt that four suspected kidnappers were recently arrested, detained and tortured in the station before they were transferred to the command headquarters.

 Our source disclosed that the attack was carried out about 2:15 am of Monday and lasted for about an hour while they escaped through the Sabagreia river.

“At dawn we heard one policeman escaped, while another who was shot on the leg survived the attack,” he said.

The community source further disclosed that all the rifles in arsenal of the police station and uniforms belonging to the deceased officers were taken away by the gunmen.

Our source who spoke with journalists said the community was still in shock over the incident; saying police operatives were killed while sleeping on duty.

As the time this report was filed, the corpses of those killed had been taken to the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa.

Bayelsa state command PPRO, DSP Asimin Butswat’s line was busy for hours, and he never returned calls as at the time of filing the report.
