Teenager bags 12 strokes of cane over stolen goods

A Zuba Grade 1 Area Court has sentenced Abubakar Abdullahi to 12 strokes of cane for being in possession of stolen goods.
The Judge, Malam Gambo Garba, sentenced Abdullahi, 14, after he pleaded guilty to a one-count charge of being in possession of stolen goods. The Prosecutor, Mr. Haruna Danlami, had told the court that the convict was arrested and brought to Zuba Police Station by a police patrol team on January 22.

Danlami said the property recovered from the convict were two pairs of shoes, two sets of wristwatches, a laptop and a stabiliser.
“When the convict was questioned regarding the goods, he could not give any satisfactory account of them.
“In the course of police investigation, he confessed he stole the property from Madalla in Niger state.”
The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 319 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
