Tech expo: PRODA clinches third position

The Project Development Institute (PRODA) Enugu has clichéd the third position in the research institute category using the indigenous water filter made from clay at the just concluded Technology and Innovation Expo 2024.

PRODA Director General Engr. Dr. Peter Okwudilichukwu Ogbobe, said the invention of the water filter will not only help give clean water to Nigerians, it would also preserve the lives and health of Nigerians.

“The major thing for getting us to win an award today was hard work. Hard work from our researchers, hard work from our team that made our research work to speak today.

“PRODA has a very rich ceramic department. What brought us up there was the aspect of using clay to make water filter that can compete favorably with every other water filter and then the water from the equipment task, met the World Health Organisation (WHO) standard and because it’s natural from clay, even the alkaline water measures reasonably with every other one, that one can also think of. And for those that go about looking for an alkaline cup, they don’t need it any more if they can adapt to the new technology developed by PRODA using the water filter,” Ogbobe added.

Speaking further on inventions the institute displayed at the event, the Director General said, “the welding machine we brought is a hybrid welding machine that depends solely on solar, which can also be used with electricity and then solar. It can be well used in rural areas without electricity.

“We also developed the bird expeller. Cocharis approached us with the problem they were facing is the cooler birds that destroys most of their rice when it comes up and so we went to our lab and we developed a quilla bird expeller because what they were doing before is to get a lot of human beings that will be making a lot of sounds that will drive away the birds but what we have now is a solar guide that can work from 5am to 7pm variably with more than 25 different kinds of sounds.”
