The chairman of Kaura local government area, Mr Siman Mathias, who has been under suspension since 31st July, 2023, has finally been impeached by the legislative arm of the local government.
The impeachment, which followed a motion moved by Hon Zachariah Gullah Achi, representing Bondon Ward and seconded by Hon Fidelis Kukwui, was attributed to abuse of office, misappropriation of fund, especially the alleged award of contracts to his firm without following due process.
Presenting the motion during plenary at the legislative chamber,Tuesday, Hon Achi said the impeached chairman awarded all Kaura local government contracts, including capital and ecological projects worth over 150 million to his personal construction company, SMK Nigeria Limited.
Hon Zachariah explained that the development contravenes Section 48 of Local Government Administration Law of 2018 and Section 35 subsection 25 of the Kaduna State Public Procurement Law 2016.
He added that some of the contracts had been completely paid for with nothing to show for, others fully paid but executed far below standard while others were exorbitantly inflated.
Pronouncing the impeachment, which was supported by nine councillors out of 10, the speaker Kaura legislative council, Hon Stephen Atuk said: “Mr Siman Mathias stands impeached as from Tuesday, 31st October, 2023.”
