A Professor of Islamic Studies, University of Ilorin, Badmas ‘Lanre Yusuf, has admonished Nigerians to resist any atempt that could force them to committing suicide, saying it is not a solution to any problem.
Yusuf, who acknowledged that the nation’s economy was in precarious condition, said that there was no justification to take own life on account of the debilitating factor.
The don stated this while delivering his Friday sermon at Hilal Crescent Central Mosque, Offa Road, GRA, Ilorin.

Yusuf, who is the Dean, Postgraduate School, University of Ilorin, said some people, for economic reason and failure to attain set goals, had seen suicide syndrome as last resort.
He stated that termination of own life was not the panacea to hide under in an attempt to escape the vicissitudes of life brought by economic situation.
He noted that no condition was permanent and admonished true believers to exercise patience and wait on Almighty Allah to intercede for them in whatever situation they were going through.
The don, therefore, call on governments and religious leaders to launch sensitisation campaign for the youth in particular not to be in a hurry to amass worldly material.

“Almighty Allah forbids taking life of human being an act of suicide syndrome, because you are not the owner of your life. We should not take laws into our hands no matter the situation. Taking life has to be done in accordance with the provisions of the law.
“In recent times, it has come to the fore that some people resorted to taking their own life because of economic reason and failure to achieve set goals. They have forgotten that no condition is permanent. We should exercise patience and wait till Allah solves our problems”, Yusuf said.
