Following many cases of kidnappings and killings in various parts of the South East in recent time, governors of the geopolitical zone were forced to meet in Enugu on Sunday.

It was gathered that the governors, in the hurried closed door meeting, were alarmed that if nothing drastic is done, the area would turn to a pariah zone.

Enugu state Governor, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia state, and Ebonyi state governor/chairman of Southeast Governors’ Forum, Engr. David Umahi were in attendance while the governors of Anambra and Imo states, Prof. Charles Soludo and Senator Hope Uzodinma were represented by their deputies, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezi and Prof. Placid Njoku, respectively.

The meeting was an indication that the meeting that they were concerned about the unwholesome happenings.

Recently, many motorists and passengers were waylaid and abducted at Ugwuogo-Nike-Opi-Nsukka Road in Enugu state where many students of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), as well as the former SSG, Dr. Dan Shere were kidnapped by gun-totting youths.

This probably, must have forced Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (aka Gburugburu) to prevail on his colleagues to convene a hurried meeting.

It was also gathered that at the end of the closed door meeting, they resolved to have a joint security patrol of the major roads in the zone.
