‘South-west govs won’t abuse Amotekun’

The director-general Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN ) Commission, Mr Seye Oyeleye, on Saturday said that South-west governors would not misuse the newly established security outfit, Operation Amotekun.

Mr Oyeleye stated this while featuring on an Inspiration FM 100.5 Ibadan live programme, “Talk Radio” monitored by the Blueprint.

He disclosed that fact remained that the new security outfit was jointly set up by the six states thereby making it difficult for any of the governors in the region to misuse it.

According to him, contrary to the notion in some quarters concerning having state police due to fears that state governors could misuse it, there was no basis for such fears in the case of Amotekun.

On the motive behind the formation of the commission, the DG said it was for the development of Nigeria as a whole and not for sectional agenda.

Mr Oyeleye stressed that DAWN commission is not only for Amotekun , but for the educational ,health, economic and Social development of the South west region and Nigeria as a whole considering the fact that SW holds an important stake  in the economic development of Nigeria.
