Smart Adeyemi hangs new tag on Dino Melaye after reclaiming Senate seat

The Senator-elect for Kogi West senatorial district, Senator Smart Adeyemi, has dismissed Senator Dino Melaye, whom he defeated in Saturday’s supplementary election for Kogi West senatorial district as his ‘political House boy’.

The returnee Senator-elect alleged that the defeated Dino Melaye had earlier stolen the mandate which he said did not belong to him, and expressed delight that the electorate have retrieved it from him through their ballots.

Senator, who was reacting to the rerun verdict Sunday, however advised Nigerians to always check the antecedent of people before electing them as representative at the National Assembly.

Speaking in Lokoja during a press conference to thank the Kogi West electorate and other eminent personalities that supported him to win the re-run election, Senator Adeyemi said Melaye was not good to represent the people of Kogi West and alleged that he was unfit to go to the National Assembly.

According to him “Legislation has nothing to do with rascality, lawlessness, and it is not a place where people should exhibit moral decadence. It is a place for people to showcase their education and exposure toward moving the nation forward.

“Dino Melaye was my political house boy who ran errands for me and I brought him up. It is apparent that when a house boy steals the garment of his master, it will neither size him nor fit him.

“Dino stole what does not belong to him that was why he was reckless and could not control himself because the office was too big for him. Now, the people of Kogi West have spoken by giving me their mandate because I have been tested and trusted in defending their interest while I was at the senate for eight years.

“I am appealing to Nigerians not to elect a character like Dino to the national assembly because he was a disgrace to the entire nation”, he said.

Senator Adeyemi, who said that he will be going back to the senate to accomplish his good plans for the people of the district, assured President Muhammadu Buhari of his cooperation and loyalty to the party that created a platform for him to win the election.

He apologised on behalf of the people of Kogi West to President Buhari, Governor Yahaya Bello, Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu, the national chairman of APC, the Sultan of Sokoto and other personalities that Dino Melaye had insulted and debased, stressing that such nefarious behaviour was never in the character of the people of Kogi West.

He commended the effort of the electorates for giving him another mandate to represent them at the senate, promising not to fail them.

In Saturday’s senatorial re-election, Senator Smart Adeyemi of the APC polled a total of 88,373 votes to defeat his main rival Dino Melaye of the People Democratic Party who polled 62,133 votes.
