Senator Abbo: Tamper justice with mercy – Adamawa PDP begs Senate, Nigerians

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Adamawa state chapter has condemned and disassociated itself from the unfortunate attitude of Senator Elisha Ishiaku Abbo (Adamawa North) over his assault on a nursing mother at a sex toy shop in Abuja.

Also, the party has appealed to the Senate, which has already constituted a committee to investigate the senator, to tamper justice with mercy especially following his apology to Nigerians, the Senate, the victim and her family over his assault on the woman.

The state PDP chairman, Barrister A. T Shehu, said Thursday in Yola that the embattled senator must have learnt his lesson in a hard way, and therefore pleaded with Nigerians and the victim and her family to forgive him.

“We the people of Adamawa state, and in particular the members of the PDP, are irked by the over-reactiveness of Senator Elisha Ishaku Abbo. Men of honour and particularly elected legislative officers should not, either in private or public, molest and assault or degrade any person, more so, a woman.

“We cannot fathom any acceptable reason for the action of the senator. We, therefore, condemn and distance ourselves from this unruly behaviour.”

The party said it supports the decision of the senate to investigate the circumstances of the incidence

“We support in totality the action of the Senate. However, we wish to call on the senate panel to show magnanimity and temper justice with mercy. It should not be used as vendetta against Senator Abbo as being canvassed by some interest groups”, he said.

“We wish to state that every human being has the propensity to err and only the divine can forgive. It is upon this premise that we call upon the lady who was assaulted and her immediate family to forgive the excesses of Senator Abbo.

“We equally pleaded with the generality of Nigerians, particularly the female folks, to find space in their hearts to forgive him, more so since he has tendered an unreserved apology to the lady and her family.”

He saluted the courage shown by Nigerians of sundry works who condemned the dastardly behavior of the senator and for defending what is right.
