Senate gives NEMA DG 3 weeks to resolve internal crisis

Chairman Senate Committee on Special Duties, Senator Abdul’Aziz Murtala Nyako, yesterday gave the Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency ( NEMA), Mustapha Yunusa Maihaja three weeks to resolve all matters relating to staff welfare and also furnish the committee with details of relief materials distributed to the Internally Displaced Persons .
He stated this, while meeting with the DG and Management of the agency, who came on an invitation by the committee to brief them over the industrial action embarked upon by staff of the agency.
Responding, the DG stated that staff redeployment and group life insurance allowance, were the main reasons for the strike.
According to him, seven staff of two unions of the agency were redeployed and this resulted to the strike.
Maihaja explained that a committee was set up to verify the various claims by staff , assuring that the agency will furnish the committee with details of the distribution of relief materials to IDP by next week.
