SEEDAN seeks FG’s support for seeds producers

The newly elected President Seed Entrepreneurs and Development Association of Nigeria (SEEDAN), Mr Yusuf  Ado Kibiya, has called on the Federal Government to support seeds companies and research agencies in Nigeria.

This is even as he assured that one of his main objectives will be to engage in serious advocacy for private sector investment in the seed sector and to encourage farmers to use improved seeds.

Speaking on Wednesday at a press conference in Abuja, Kibiya said, “We will embark on a massive campaign so that government leaders at all levels could appreciate the importance of seeds to the development of agriculture and for farmers to understand the value of utilizing new generation seeds towards their productivity.”

Kibiya lamented the capital intensive nature of the sector, hence the need for the government to focus more on assisting the sector.

He lamented the rate of Policy inconsistency, saying this has been a major problem in the sector.

He called for support for the seed sector, saying the government is not supporting the sector, this is even as he urged the government to develop policy that will enhance the seeds companies.
