See leadership positions as our opportunities to make society better, Catholic Bishop tells poly Rectors

The Catholic Bishop of Ekwulobia Diocese in Anambra state, His Eminence, Peter Cardinal Okpaleke, has urged Rectors of Polytechnics in Nigeria to see their leadership positions as opportunities to better the society.

Okpalaeke, who gave the advice at Ogidi, Idemili North Local Government Area (LGA), during a thanksgiving mass organised in honour of the Acting Rector, Federal Polytechnic Oko, Dr Uche Onyegbu, argued that leadership positions come with lots of responsibilities.

“God elevate people to certain positions to enable them keep watch over the people with responsibilities of changing their lives and society at large. Dr Uche, now that you are the Rector, God expects you to use this position for the good of all. See this position as the opportunity to make the world better.

“It is now your duty to mentor the staff and students of your Polytechnic. We have all been chosen by God to play certain roles in the society, always ask God for his enablement to fulfill His purpose for you. Do what is good and let the future be bright for the ones entrusted in our hands,” he stated.

In a speech, the Acting Rector, Dr. Onyegbu thanked God for giving him the opportunity to serve in that capacity, promising to do his best in contributing to the development of the society.

Dr. Onyegbu was appointed the acting Rector of the Federal Polytechnic Oko on February 5, 2024 by President Bola Tinubu through the Federal Ministry of Education after his predecessor, Engr. Dr. Francisca Unoma Nwafulugo served out her five years single term.
