Sanusi ‘s removal a plot to suppress oil sector probe – Lawmaker

The suspension of embattled Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Malam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, by President Goodluck Jonathan, would suppress the ongoing probe into the oil sector.

The chairman, Committee on Judiciary, Legal Matters and Anti-Corruption in the Kwara state House of Assembly, Barrister Kamal Fagbemi, has said.
He said the presidency’s decision, which asked the CBN boss to temporarily quit office was a tactical way of sending him packing.
Fagbemi, who spoke to newsmen yesterday in Ilorin, said President Jonathan erred in law to have taken such a hasty decision.

He said only the suspended CBN governor possessed the relevant documents that could offer insight into the scandal rocking the oil sector of the economy, adding that Jonathan’s action was a tacit method of encouraging corruption.
He said: “There have been allegations against the NNPC. This is the man (Sanusi) who possesses the evidence. You’ve removed him. What are you doing? You are suppressing the evidence. That itself is corruption.

“The suspension is illegal, because now, it is more or less you are destroying the evidence. The man (Sanusi) possesses the evidence and he has everything and you said you are suspending him. And these evidences are not private but documentary evidences. Mr President should do the needful. He should allow the man and let the Senate conclude its investigations into the activities of the NNPC.”
