RTEAN urges Bauchi to adopt PPP model on infrastructure

Chairman Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), Bauchi state chapter, Alhaji Abdullahi Mohammed, has urged the state government to adopt public, private partnership (PPP) model for development of infrastructure.

In an interview in Bauchi Tuesday, Mohammed said the PPP strategy would enhance the provision of more quality infrastructure for the people.

He urged the government to adopt the PPP model to build motor parks and other basic social amenities in the state capital.

Mohammed pointed out that with the population growth in the state capital, a central motor park would not be adequate to accommodate the large population of commuters

“The state capital metropolis and environs need not less than eight motor parks to cover all the five routes and highways.

“The motor parks should be sited on Bauchi-Gombe road, Bauchi-Jos road, Bauchi-Kano road, Bauchi-Maiduguri road and Bauchi-Tafawa Balewa road.

“Others include tipper garages and long vehicle motor parks, it will reduce proliferation of motor parks in the state metropolis,” Mohammed said.

According to him, building modern motor parks and sustainable infrastructure that are reliable will be critical for meeting the rising aspirations of millions of people in the state.

He said that investments in infrastructure would help raise economic growth, adding that it also offers new economic opportunities, and facilitates investment in human capital.

“We are aware of the paucity of funds in government, that is why we are encouraging the PPP model for infrastructure development,” he added.
