Rodrygo equals Ronaldo’s Real Madrid feat

Rodrygo finds himself among Real Madrid royalty after his impressive display against Cadiz saw him achieve a feat managed by Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Brazilian had come under scrutiny ahead of Sunday’s La Liga matchup, with his father having to step in after online trolls racially abused him over an altercation with Lionel Messi while on international duty. But Rodrygo appeared unfazed against Cadiz, scoring a sublime solo effort for his first goal before showcasing more dribbling prowess for his second. The 22-year-old then laid one on for Jude Bellingham to make it three, meaning Madrid leapfrog Girona into top spot – and Rodrygo completes a miraculous record at club level.

The Brazil star has now been involved in at least three goals in his last two consecutive league matches, following up on his two goals and two assists against Valencia on November 11. Per Opta, Rodrygo is one of only three Real Madrid stars in the 21st century to achieve this feat. The others are Gonzalo Higuain, who did so once, and current Al-Nassr forward Cristiano Ronaldo, who managed it an incredible seven times.

Rodrygo therefore has seven goal contributions in his last two La Liga matches, marking an incredible turn of form after a slow start to the season. He had recorded just two in his opening 12 league appearances.

After an action-packed week at club and international level, the Brazilian forward will feature on the European stage when Real host Napoli on Wednesday. Los Blancos have already qualified for the Champions League knockout stage after recording four wins from four, and a draw will be enough to see them progress as group winners.
