Review harmonisation of ranks at FRSC

I wrote an article three months ago in which I cried out on the issue of harmonization of ranks within some selected security agencies which exempted the Federal Road Safely Commission (FRSC). But soon after my outcry the relevant authority swifly addressed the issue.

Unfortunately, the approval for a review of FRSC ranking system was restricted to officers who possess the Higher National Diploma (HND) qualification when joining the service, that is to say on entry. What about the junior cadre/staff? They too are entitled to any positive change initially designed to motivate other officers.

This is because the workforce of any organisation whether public or private is by nature centralised on junior officers as their superiors only sign bills presented to them in their well decorated and well furnished offices. To cut it short, the junior staff deserve what their superiors deserve; what is good for the goose is also good for the gander.

In the midst of this anomaly, it has been observed that in the Nigerian Customs service, the Nigerian Correctional Service and the Nigerian Immigration Service, the review was made uniform by the federal government unlike the FRSC which was discriminatory.

Judging by the fact that you would find two different individuals who applied and got recruited in the same year into the same force, one in FRSC and the other in the Nigerian Immigration Service, after being recruited and with transition of time, you may find one of the two already promoted beyond reasonable expectation whilst the other security agent working in the FRSC still remains in the same position and even if he is luckily promoted, you would find that he is just a little bit promoted not according to ranking system as obtainable in other security agencies mentioned above.

My major concerns are: what is responsible for the evolution of this inconsistency, is the FRSC not equally regarded as a top security agency of the federation? Is the FRSC not officially assigned with the task of ensuring peace and orderliness through safeguarding lives and properties of all Nigerians?

Though the nature of the responsibilities shouldered or carried out by the government of this country are too complex, and the government is, to some extent, trying, there is absolute need which necessitates and makes it clearly too significant for the government to make a review structurally on the ranking systems in the FRSC.

In a nutshell, I would like to call the attention of the federal government, specifically, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Bob Mustapha, to look into my outcry and ensure the existence of justice and fairness amongst all her security agencies.

May we remain united and peaceful.
