Ramadan: Cleric urges leaders to renew faith, govern with piety

Alhaji Alfa Usman, the Chief Imam of Busu, Lavun Local government area of Niger state, has charged Nigerian leaders, especially the Muslims among them, to renew their faith and govern with absolute fear of God.

The cleric made the appeal in Busu at the opening of a Ramadan tafsir and breaking of fast at Better life branch of Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi Qur’anic Memorisation School, sponsored by Alhaji Mohammed Baba-Busu, on Tuesday.

Usman said, “This year’s Ramadan has come in the most trying period for the citizens of Nigeria, irrespective of religious background and affiliation.”

He called on the nation’s leaders at all levels to reflect on the worsening economic challenges and come up with policies that would alleviate the plight of the people, particularly in the holy month of Ramadan.

The cleric also urged Muslims to intensify prayers during the month, for the return of permanent peace in Nigeria.

According to him, prayer remains the most effective weapon against any form of challenges.

The clergy explained that with prayers, the current security, socio-economic and other challenges facing the country could be solved through divine intervention .

The convener and sponsor of the Tafsir, Alhaji Muhammad Baba-Busu, who holds the traditional title of “Jakadan Labarin Nupe”, urged Muslims to fear Allah and always remember the day of reckoning.

He appealed to wealthy individuals to always assist the less-privileged by providing them with food items and cash to ease the current hardships and cushion the effects of the economic predicament among the resident.

The “Jakada Labarin Nupe” urged Muslims to spend their God-given wealth in the course of moving the religion forward, rather than saving them in bank accounts that will not add any value to them spiritually.

As such, “it is better we redistribute it amongst the less privileged, the little God has given to us and not to be hoarded or used as a status symbol.

“I like to share my last kobo with those who don’t have it because we will leave whatever we acquire in this worthless world.

“All that will be required to bury anyone, once you die, does not cost more than N2000, then why keep millions in the bank that will not be useful to you in the hereafter, so why the ego and unnecessary amassing of wealth?

“Before the Almighty Allah, all mortals are equal and we will account for our deeds before Him on the day of resurrection.”

“It is better we spend our God-given wealth to acquire paradise rather than leaving it behind that could be a source of some people to enter hell fire on the day of judgement”.
