Presidential election: Obi shocks Tinubu, Atiku in Imo, Anambra, Ebonyi, Delta 

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi winner of the presidential Election held last Saturday in Imo state.

The Returning Officer for the state, Charles Esimone, who announced the result Tuesday in Owerri, said Obi polled 352, 904 votes to beat Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who scored 66,171 votes, Atiku Abubakar of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) who got 30,044 votes, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) who secured 1,536 votes and other contestants.

Esimone further said that the results were collated from 26 out of 27 local government areas of the state as the result of Njaba local government area was not collated.

Meanwhile, Labour Party supporters in the state have faulted the figures released by INEC, saying they were concocted by the commission and the APC government in the state.

Some members of the party who spoke to our correspondent were of the belief that Obi polled more than what was given to him, while Tinubu did not get up to 2,000 votes.

…Polls 584,621 in Anambra

The Presidential candidate of Labour Party (LP), Mr Peter Obi has pooled a total of 584,621 votes in Anambra State to defeat his closest rival, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who got 9036 votes.

The INEC State Collation Officer for 2023 Presidential poll and Vice Chancellor, Federal University of Technology, Owerri, Professor Nnenna Oti, who disclosed this at the INEC headquarters in Awka, said that the LP Presidential flag bearer defeated all parties in all the 21 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Anambra State.

The results also showed that the candidate of All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), Professor Peter Umeadi came third with 7,388 votes, while Alhaji Ahmed Bola Tinubu of All Progressive Congress (APC) came fourth with 5011votes.

Obi and Umeadi are both from Anaocha LGA, Anambra State where APGA is a ruling party. Nonetheless, Obi won the whole 21 LGAs of the State, including the governor Chukwuma Soludo’s home council area, Aguata, despite the governor’s earlier claim in a statement that the LP will not win Anambra State.

Scores of other parties on the election were; Young Progressive Party (YPP), 1997 votes; New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), 1967; Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), 1420; Boot Party ( BP) 514 votes; Accord (A) 343 votes; and Allied People’s Movement (APM) 325 votes.

Others were Action Democratic Party (ADP), 299 votes; African Democratic Congress (ADC), 208; All People’s Party (APP) 148 votes; Nigerian Rescue Movement  (NRM), 118 votes; African Action Congress (AAC) 112 votes; Action Alliance (AA), 108;  Social Democratic Party (SDP), 84; and People’s Redemption Party (PRP) 62 votes.

Professor Oti said that Anambra State has a total 2,536,156 registered voters, with 628,592 accredited voters, 613,861 total valid votes, 10,751 rejected votes and a total of 624,612 votes cast.

Speaking also, the Resident Electoral Commissioner of INEC in Anambra State, Dr Mrs Queen Elizabeth Agwu, thanked the staff of the commission, Anambra residents and the media for their conduct throughout the election, assuring that the results would be conveyed to Abuja.

…Beats Tinubu, Atiku in Ebonyi with 259,738 votes

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) Peter Obi has been declared winner of the contest in Ebonyi state.

The All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubucame second while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Atiku Abubakar placed third.

The results were announced at the Ebonyi Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abakaliki, the capital of the State on Tuesday.

The Collation Officer for Ebonyi State, Prof Charles Igwe, who is the Vice Chancellor of the University of Nigeria (UNN) announced the final results.

He said Obi garnered 259,738 while Tinubu got 42,402 votes and Atiku scored 13,503 votes.

Shocks Atiku/Okowa in Delta

The Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has won Saturday’s election in Delta state, South-south Nigeria.

Mr Obi polled 341,866 votes to defeat other candidates in the race, according to the results of the election announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Tuesday.

Obi’s victory in the oil-rich Delta state is a political blow to the vice-presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ifeanyi Okowa, who is the governor of the state.

PDP, which is the ruling party in the state, came second with 161,600 votes, while the All Progressives Congress scored 90,183 votes.

The New Nigeria Peoples Party scored 3,122 votes.

Channels TV report monitored in Asaba reported that 667149 voters were accredited for the exercise but 654,650 votes were recorded out of which 615,341 were valid, while 39,309 were rejected.
