Politics: We can still right our wrongs – Bayero

The Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, has described Kano as “a civilised bastion of partisan politics in contemporary political history” of the nation, adding that for what it was known, it had set the pace for the much-needed political civilisation.

Speaking while receiving the chairman, Kano State Independent Electoral Commission, Prof. Garba Ibrahim Sheka, who paid him a courtesy visit in his palace in Kano Thursday, Bayero said electing leaders at various positions of authority through an ideal democratic system “is the best opportunity offered to the electorate to chart a   good course for themselves and the development of the nation.”

“Your presence here today is a clear testimony of the fact that you are fully prepared to handle your assigned responsibility of conducting the local government election, devoid of anarchy, chaos or wanton act of irresponsibility by those willing to destabilise the   prevailing peaceful atmosphere in Kano.

“We must commend the leadership foresight of Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, for making Kano a fountain of peace, tranquility and stability at the time efforts were being put in place to calm frayed nerves. We are all convinced beyond any reasonable doubt that the governor is up and doing in bringing sanity to every dicey situation,” he said.

Speaking earlier, the chairman, Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC), Prof. Garba Ibrahim Sheka, told the monarch that he was at his palace to keep him posted on the preparations for the forthcoming local government election in Kano.
