Police arrest mother for Kidnapping daughter in Kano

The Kano state Police Command has disclosed that it had arrested a mother for allegedly kidnapping her biological daughter for ransom at Madobi local government area of the state.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mohammed Usaini Gumel, made the disclosure Friday while parading the suspects at the police headquarters, Bompai, Kano.

Gumel, who assumed office nine days ago, said his leadership would not leave any stone unturned in terms of enhancing the security of lives and property of the general populace.

“In our roadmap to achieve a peaceful Kano state, we commenced robust community policing engagements, incorporating intelligence-led and visibility policing and application of technology in tackling crimes, building synergy with sister security agencies, implementing community policing strategies with the stakeholders, identifying root causes of crimes especially use of illicit drugs, massive public enlightenment and

sensitisation.”

“On 08/05/2023, a report was received from one Kabiru Shehu of Sharada Quarters, Kano Municipal LGA that his divorced wife, one Rahma Sulaiman, f, 25 years old, informed him that his daughter named Hafsat Kabiru, f, six years old was missing, and that unknown persons called her through her mobile phone demanding the sum of N3, 000,000 as ransom.

“In a follow-up investigation, the victim was rescued in Madobi LGA. The divorced wife was arrested and confessed to have planned, took her daughter to a hideout and demanded the ransom. Investigation is in progress.

“Meanwhile In Dala local government On 04/04/2023, a report was received from a resident of Kofar Ruwa Quarters, Dala LGA, Kano state, that his son, one Almustapha Bashir, m, six years old was kidnapped and a ransom of N20,000,000 was demanded which they settled at N5,150,000.

“In a follow-up of the investigation, the victim was rescued unhurt and the following suspects were arrested (i) Zainab Rabi’u, f, 45 years old of Gwammaja Quarters, a mastermind and an aunt to the victim that organised and arranged the Kidnapping. (ii) Abdurrashid Sa’idu, m, 27 years (iii) Hassan Abdullahi, m, 24 years old and (iv) Ahmed Saleh, m, 25 years old, all of Sheka Quarters Kano.”

According to the Command, all the suspects had confessed to the crime and would be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.

He also said a gang of suspected kidnappers was arrested in Rano local government area and that arms and ammunition were recovered from them.
