Plateau: Tribunal upholds Plang’s election, dismisses PDP’s Gotom petition

The panel 1, Plateau State National and House of Assembly, Election Petition Tribunal, Jos, led by justice Muhammad Tukur, has dismissed the petition of G.Y Gotom, of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), filed against Senator Diket Plang, of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In its judgement delivered Tuesday, evening, by member 1, justice Omeka
Elekwa, the tribunal affirmed the election and returned of Senator Diket Plang, as validly elected, to represent Plateau Central Senatorial District.

Mr. G Y Gotom, had challenged the election and subsequent, of Senator Diket Plang, on an alleged, “noncompliance with the electoral act.”

He averred that the result in the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), IRev does not tally with what was obtained at some polling units.

However, in its judgement the tribunal, held that the INEC has proved the results in its IRev, whereas the petitioners (Gotom and PDP), had failed to produce, a contrary results from the INEC IRev.

“The results in INEC IRev are reliable and readable…” the tribunal held.

It further held that the petitioners were given opportunity to tender the one they have but failed to invite witnesses to speak to it.

It held that INEC did not acted in disobedience to the electoral act.
