Plateau killings: Angry women torch monarch’s residence, police arrest 8

Protesting women on Friday torched the residence of the district head of Bokkos, in Bokkos local government area of Plateau state, Michael Monday Adanchi.

The aggrieved women said they were protesting against the recent killings of dozens of people in no less than 25 communities within Bokkos LGA, just as police confirmed arresting eight persons suspected to be in connection with the killings.

An eyewitness told journalists that the incident occurred around 12:30am, saying the women burned the house following the arrest of some members of the community for alleged involvement and in the recent silent killings in the area.

According to the source, the entire of the traditional ruler’s residence and his administrative office were burned down.

“The incident began at the police station where they expressed their anger over the arrest of some members of the community. After leaving the police station, they proceeded to the house of the traditional ruler, protesting that he was a sellout. A few minutes after reaching the house, they set it ablaze,” the source said.

When contacted, the Plateau state police Command’s spokesman, DSP Alfred Alabo, said he incident would be investigated.

In a related development, the Command has confirmed that “eight suspects have been arrested in connection with the recent killings in Bokkos and Barkin Ladi LGAs.”

However, its spokesman, Alabo, didn’t give further details on the identities of the suspects.
