Plateau Inter-Faith, Onaiyekan Foundation harp on peaceful co-existence

Residents of Miango community in Bassa local government area of Plateau state have been admonished to embrace peace as a means of human and capital development.

The admonishment came during a 2-day training of religious leaders, community leaders, women and youth on peaceful coexistence, organised by Plateau Inter-Faith Forum, in collaboration with Cardinal Onaiyekan Foundation For Peace (COFP), held at the Women Centre in Jos.

Facilitating the training, Malam Umar Farouk Musa and Summaiya Abubakar Abdullahi, both fellows of COFP, said the participants should be mindful of the provisions of their religious doctrines on the significance of peace.

“The training became necessary due to the persistent crises that have bedeviled the Miango community in recent times, that makes Plateau Inter-Faith Forum and Cardinal Onaiyekan Foundation For Peace (COFP) organised the training programme,” Farouk said.

He said forgiveness is key to every peaceful coexistence, which will in turn lead to sanity and respect for human lives, adding that such is achievable through inter-faith dialogue at all times.

The representative of COFP, Me Nicholas, highlighted the importance of inter-faith dialogue, which he is one of the main reasons why COFP put in place the fellowship programme, targeted not only Nigerians but Africa as a whole.

He challenged the participants to make better use of what the received at the training and put into practice all they learnt.
