Plateau: DPO removed, detained for alleged killing of 2 herders

Commissioner of Police Plateau state command, Edward Egbuka has removed and detained a Divisional Police Officer (DPO), DSP Solomon Machu, in charge of Bassa local government area, over alleged extra-judicial killing of two herders.

The DPO is alleged to have shot to death the duo of 24-year-old Musa Giwa and 30-year-old Ibrahim Sa’idu, after they were arrested and safely handed over to the DPO alive by men of the local vigilante at Dogon Daji village on Sunday night.

The Police Thursday handed over the two dead bodies from the mortuary of the Plateau State Specialist Hospital, for onward burial.

The Hardo of Dogon Daji, Alhaji Adamu Muhammad, said the two herders, one a Fulani and another a Ganawuri, went on in searched of one missing cow of their brother, when the local vigilante arrested and handed them to the DPO.

“Others have returned home having seen the missing cow, Ibrahim Sa’idu, and Musa Giwa, did not return.

“I called the village head of Dogon Daji, Mr. Musa Garba Asibayi, and told him to help us find out if they are in their areas. The village head latter called back to inform me that they were arrested and safely handed over to the DPO,” he said.

Alhaji Muhammad said on Monday morning, their corpses were sighted by the road side, with gun shots on their heads.

The parents of the two herders allegedly killed by the DPO said they are demanding for his prosecution for justice to prevail.
