The Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHED), has been adjudged the best in safety for the month of November 2016 by the Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA).
Though, PHED tied with Enugu Electricity Distribution Company to clinch the title within the period under review, it was the fifth time PHED would be staying tops in the last eleven months.
The PHED, it would be recalled has ranked first in the months of February, May, June and July 2016, before achieving the same feat in the current month.
NEMSA had relied on five major indicators to arrive at it’s decision, namely total number of accidents, injuries, fatalities, bad networks resolved and reporting compliance.
PHED performed outstandingly in the five parameters mentioned; hence, it was ranked the best out of the eleven Distribution Companies and Transmission Company of Nigeria.
Expressing delight over the laudable feat, Chief Executive Officer, PHED, Jay McCoskey thanked everyone, especially, Heads of departments, technical crew, dispatch engineers for their timely resolution of customers’ issues.
Jay McCoskey, an ardent believer in “Work safely and return home to meet your loved ones because they need you”, had emphasized the need for obeying safety rules, noting that the company recorded zero fatalities and accidents.
“We will continue to respond timely to fix bad networks as a commitment to our customers, employees and other stakeholders”, he said.
McCoskey urged every employee to be safety conscious before embarking on any assignment, adding that ‘No one gets hurts on the job’, as every breadwinner needs to get home safely after a day’s job.
The operations ranking is an outcome of a directive by the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola {SAN} at the monthly meeting of the operators of the power sector with a view to raising safety consciousness of key players in the power industry.
