A front line politician in Abia state, High Chief Uche Akwukwaegbu, has advised Igbos to remain the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) because it is the only party that can give his Igbo people sense of national belonging. High Chief Akwukwaegbu said yesterday that aside from the PDP other political parties do not have genuine interest of Igbo nation at heart.

He said he decided to return to the PDP because the party is a pan Nigerian party that accommodates all tribes and is neither regional nor pro a particularly region. Akwukwaegbu, the traditional Prime Minister of Ibeku Ancient Kingdom in Umuahia North, said during the 45 years retirement ceremony of Rev and Rev Mrs Chimechefulam Adindu as Reverends of Assemblies of God Church Nigeria.

Speaking on his defection from his former party the APC back the PDP, he said though Abians have given many interpretations, he there was nothing unusual about leaving the PDP and returning to the same party adding that he found it hard to desert a house he built. Akwukwaegbu popularly called “Bawas”, by his political and business associates, opined that the former Vice President of Nigeria, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, left the PDP to the APC and is now back to the PDP alongside other prominent Nigerian politicians saying that the people should not input unnecessary motives about his defection back to the PDP.

“I left PDP for good and I am back to the PDP for good because it is the only party that makes provision for varied interests of Nigerians including that of the igbos and a truly national party without tribal tendencies “Akwukwaegbu enthused. He maintained that the APC do not have agenda that will favour Igbo people as is the case with other parties except the PDP.

Further, he added that he came back to the PDP to assist in Governor Okezie Ikpeazu’s re election bid in 2019 and was delighted that the governor has done well despite court distractions. Therefore, he lauded his party for a successful national convention noting that their national chairman is experienced and is the best thing that has happened to the PDP in recent times.
