PDP alerts on electoral materials discovered in Minna apartment

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Niger state has urged the police to seal a house in Minna claiming that some electoral materials, including BVAS machines and INEC adhoc staff were discovered in the house.

The state chairman of PDP, Barrister Tanko Beji, stated this Monday in at a press briefing in Minna.

He said the police made the discovery Sunday afternoon during a raid on the building following a tip-off.

He said, “We call on the police to hasten investigation on the discovery to get to the root of the matter,” listing items recovered at the house to include computer, voters register, BVAS machines adding that some NYSC members who are serving as adhoc staff to INEC and other  APC stalwarts were also discovered at the place.

Beji said the discovery has clearly shown that the February 25th Presidential and National Assembly elections have been jeopardised while APC is planning to rig the forthcoming gubernatorial and House of Assembly elections.

“I want to call on INEC to cancel the February 25th Presidential and National Assembly election because it was characterised by malpractices and rigging as this incident has now confirmed.”

However, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Niger state police command, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, dismissed the PDP claim as false alarm and fake reports, saying it does not reflect the true position of the incident.

The PPRO in a response said, “It is important to state that on 05/03/2023 at about 1500hrs, information was received that some persons were found in a building at Bosso Estate allegedly thumb printing ballot papers ahead of the forthcoming gubernatorial election in the state.”

He said upon receipt of the information, the Police patrol team led by DPO Bosso Div mobilised to the area and the informant led the Police to the building.

“Unfortunately, on entering the building and based on preliminary investigation, it was discovered that the information was untrue and false in its entirety,” he said.
