Oyo NUJ lauds Makinde on security, urges South-West governors to immortalise Akeredolu  

 

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Oyo State Council, Thursday, lauded Governor Seyi Makinde on the security situation in the state. 

Oyo NUJ gave the commendation in the communiqué issued at the end of the union’s December monthly congress held at its Iyaganku Press Centre in Ibadan, Wednesday. 

According to Oyo NUJ, as far as the security of the state is concerned Governor Makinde is leading by example, adding, “He is leading from the front, not from the rear.”

“We note with delight that Governor Makinde led the security team in the state to give support to security agencies by combing forests on Oke-Ogun axis of the state in the night of Thursday December 21, 2023. 

“This shows that he is concerned and bordered about elements of insecurity in the forest that spreads across eight among the 10 local government areas in Oke-Ogun zone of the state,” it stated.

The union also commended security agencies putting their lives on the line to secure the people and property of residents of the state, adding: “Nevertheless, there are still more grounds to be covered.”

Also in the communiqué, the union at the congress presided over by Comrade Ademola Babalola, paid glowing tributes to the late immediate past governor of Ondo state, Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu, SAN.

It called on the South-west governors to immortalise the late governor by upholding his legacies, especially on the formation of Amotekun Corps.

The union stressed that late Arakunrin Akeredolu as chairman South West Governors’ Forum before his demise “was very articulate in the battled with the federal government till the formation of Amotekun Corps was finally settled in favour or the zone.  

The union pointed out that the late Gov Akeredolu spent major part of his life in Ibadan and also invested in the city, which made him a gem to Oyo and Ondo states.
