A group, Women Executive Directors Network, has commended Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue state for his leadership initiatives since assumption of office.
Leader of the group, Mrs Josephine Habba, who led the group to visit the Governor yesterday at the Benue Peoples House in Makurdi, said the initiatives included the amnesty programme and re-engagement with the development partners.

She said they were in his office to identify with his government’s policies which they described as women-friendly policies and programmes.
Mrs Habba noted that women were the greatest beneficiaries of the amnesty program which she said had engendered peace in the state because, according to her, where there was insecurity the women suffered most.

The group appealed for the appointment of a Civil Society representative to liaise with the state government on issues of mutual benefit.
Ortom appealed to members of the group to exploit their connection with the international community to the advantage of the State.
He said Civil Societies were highly influential and enterprising in driving development and promised sustained synergy with the Women Executive Directors to bring the needed growth in the state.

The governor promised that he would appoint a person with Civil Society background as Desk Officer to oversee liaison as requested by the group as soon as the financial status of the state improved.
