Open varsity VC donates press jackets to journalists

Vice-chancellor of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Prof. Vincent Tenebe, yesterday donated 100 press jackets to the Kaduna state Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) to give its members easy identification “whenever they go about their duties.”
Presenting the jackets to the NUJ, Tenebe said the nature of the journalism profession exposed them to hazards of the profession that “can be checked by easy identification of members on duty and that is the need for the press jackets.”
Tenebe, who was represented by the Deputy Registrar, Dr John Obaji, said the press jackets would also assist in the area of identifying and fishing out quack journalists “who go about with cameras and recorders deceiving the public that they are members of the journalism profession.”
Receiving the jackets, the chairman of the Kaduna state Council of the NUJ, Comrade Yusuf Idris, thanked the vice-chancellor of NOUN for the gesture, adding that the steps taken by the VC had demonstrated that he was indeed “a friend of the press.”
