Obey order or go to jail, court tells sacked Suleja chairman

A Suleja High Court has warned the sacked chairman of the local government council, Malam Abdullahi Shuaibu Maje, to obey its judgment ordering him to vacate office for the reinstated chairman, Ahmed Dikko Kassim or risk jail.
The court gave the warning in an order issued and dated 22nd June 2018, following a complaint from Kasim that Shuaibu Maje has refused to vacate office in disobedience to the court order.
The court had in its ruling on June 20, ordered the reinstatement of Malam Ahmed Kassim, as the authentic chairman of Suleja local government area, Niger state forthwith, after two years of legal battle.
Kasim was impeached by the legislative arm of the council over offences bothering on abuse of office in January 2016 and was replaced by his vice, Shuaibu Abdullahi Maje.
Maje was however sacked by the court last week in a ruling on the case filed by Kasim challenging his removal from office.
However, Maje was said to have continued to parade himself as chairman after filing an appeal on the matter.
He was said to have been in the office last Friday despite the court ruling thereby prompting the court to issue a notice of consequence of disobedience to the order on June 22.
The order obtained by Blueprint yesterday warned Maje that “unless you obey the directions contained in the judgment dated 20th day of June, 2018 in favour of Hon Ahmed Dikko Kassim, you will be guilty of contempt of court and will be liable to be convicted in prison.”
