Obaseki borrowing to prosecute Edo guber poll – APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo state, has berated the governor Godwin Obaseki-led administration over its N17.5 billion loan request to the House of Assembly, less than one month after the legislators passed the State 2024 appropriation bill.

This was just as the party decried the state debt profile, which according to it, already stood at N135 billion and $35.6 billion respectively.

Acting Chairman of the APC, Emperior Jarrett Tenebe who disclosed this to journalists in Benin City on Friday, said: “it is a monumental disaster that Edo State patrimony has been swindled with an unassailable, humongous debt profile, designed to leave the State in ruin.

“And the only discernable conclusion to be drawn from the rational for taking this fresh loan, is that the governor has designed a conduit to take Edo State money to prosecute the next Governorship election.”

Continuing, the party chair wondered “why the governor would post #9 billion loan request when in actual fact the amount of the facility is N17.5 billion.”

He stated that “no corollary of project attached there to the said facility and the facility is not contained as loan to be taken in the 2024 fiscal budget just recently passed.

The APC chair further said Edo State is yearning for a bold change, adding, “Hence we are using this medium to call on Edo People to completely reject the PDP and their shenanigans; and vote massively for the APC that offers the best alternative.”

The State commissioner for information, Hon. Chris Nehikhare had said he would react to the allegations. He was yet to respond at the time of filing this report.
