Obasanjo inaugurates centre for industrial engineering research in Ogun

Former president Olusegun Obasanjo has inaugurated a state of the art industrial engineering research center, Knowledge Economy Hub in Ogun state, to promote technological development.

While officially opening the centre, weekend at Ibara Housing Estate, Abeokuta, he noted that the initiative is capable of driving the economic activities of Nigeria and Africa at large.

“This should have the interests of economic activities of Nigeria and Africa. Politics has to go right for the economy to go right. If politics and economy don’t go right, the social life of the people cannot go right,” he stated.

The director general of the centre, Dr. Tobi Adeuyi, in his remarks stated that the center will focus on facilitating the development of domesticated technology to tackle technical challenges in Nigeria.

Adeuyi said the research center was set up to develop home-grown technology solutions to a number of problems that the nation is facing.

He noted that technology will make experts in various sectors of Nigeria more efficient and productive. This, he said, would in turn impact national economic development.

“We focus on developing homegrown technological solutions to a number of our problems. Nobody will come and solve our problems for us. Our major focus is to facilitate the development of domesticated technology to tackle our technical challenge in Nigeria,” he said.
