Director-General National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier Johnson Bamidele Olawumi, has charged corps members to avoid being used by politicians during the 2015 general elections to protect the image of the corps and their own integrity.
The DG made this assertion yesterday while addressing the National Youth Service Corps members during his supervisory visit to the NYSC camp along Abuja – Kaduna expressway in Kaduna yesterday.
“As you all know corps members have become part of electoral process in the country, we will train you and sensitise you on how to go about it before the election begins next year so don’t collect any form of financial reward or gift from politician wherever you will be assigned during the election.”
Olawumi admonished them to learn the tradition, culture and religion of their state of deployment and be friendly with the people of their primary assignment “so that the people will not be hostile to you.”
“The camp is very well organised and am particularly impressed with the administration of the camp and I thank the governor of Kaduna state for his development in the camp.”
NYSC coordinator Kaduna state, Mr Hilary Nasamu, commended the DG for his visit, and enjoined the corps members to behave well as they were being given thorough training that would facilitate their service year and help them in future.
“The visit is special to us as the DG cannot visit all the camps, the camps he visits are carefully selected and when he came he was not disappointed. I tell them every day that any corps member who leaves the camp and still make mistake in place of national assignment is not a good individual and a good citizen.”
