NYCN commiserates with FG over burning of CAC office

The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has commiserated with the federal government over the unfortunate fire outbreak that destroyed parts of the Accountant General of the Federation’s Office and the headquarters of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) in Abuja.

The NYCN in a statement signed by its president, Solomon Adodo, said the incidences were regrettable especially at a time the nation was battling to contend with the novel coronavirus that is threatening human existence and sued for thorough investigation to unravel the causes.

It would be recalled that fire recently broke out at the Treasury House, a building housing the AGF’s office in Abuja. One week after, another fire outbreak was reported at the headquarters of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), a situation that made many suspicious of the coincidence.

The NYCN urged Nigerians to give the government the benefit of doubt as the AGF has assured that the inferno did not destroy any record.

Similarly, Adodo urged the federal government to remain committed in addressing the challenge posed by COVID-19 and ensure that all donations made towards this cause are judiciously and transparently applied.

“We urge the government to do a full scale investigation using the right professionals and security agencies to determine exactly what led to the fire incidences and if it is a case of sabotage those guilty should be made to bear the consequences of their dastardly actions.

“The fire incidence, particularly in the AGF office is a cause of concern to many Nigerians. Some alleged that funds donated for management of COVID-19 pandemic has been diverted and the building set ablaze to destroy documents and records of the social intervention transactions during this period.

“Thankfully, the AGF has come out clear the air to say that all financial documents are intact. We herein call on the federal government to ensure judicious and transparent usage of all donations,” the statement added.

He noted that Okoko’s death was a huge loss to the PDP family in Bayelsa, coming at a time the party had great hopes in him to further the frontiers of development of the state.
