NOUN VC stresses importance of inaugural lectures

Professors with National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) have been challenged to take the issue of delivering of inaugural lectures seriously as a proof of their academic worth.
Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Abdallah Adamu, gave the charge yesterday in Abuja in his welcome remark at the 10th inaugural lecture delivered by a Professor of Education, Abubakar Garba Suleiman, at the institution.

Prof. Adamu also advised those dons who had delivered their inaugural lectures in their former institutions before joining the NOUN to endeavour to deliver public lectures in the their present university.
He stressed that inaugural lecture was significant in the life of an academic, adding that it would provide newly appointed professors the opportunity to share with their colleagues, the university community, general public the benefit of their works and current researches and future plans.
He described Prof. Suleiman, whose lecture was titled: “The Need to Know and Understand Recreation, Leisure and Tourism Practice in Nigeria”, as a seasoned academic, astute administrator and researcher.

“This lecture is remarkable in several ways. Apart from being my first ajor event since my appointment as a vice-chancellor of the university, the lecture deals with a topic that has meaningful impact on the lives of everyone and the nation at large,” he said.
Prof. Suleiman, in the lecture, said recreation, leisure and tourism practices were interwoven, stressing that there could be no meaningful tourism without leisure and recreation.
He listed the benefits of leisure, recreation and tourism, adding that in recreation, activities must be leisurely, voluntary and done with satisfaction.
