NOPRIN, FIDA call for police, youth orientation to reduce friction

The national coordinator of Network of Police Reform In Nigeria (NOPRIN), Mr. Ikoli Emmanuel, and the chairperson of International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), Mrs Chinwe Efobi, have called for more orientation between the youth and the police.

This is to enable them to know what is expected of them so as to minimise crisis which has become a recurring decimal.

Speaking at a workshop organised by NOPRIN in conjunction with the Lagos state Ministry of Youths and Social Development  with the theme: “Youth and policing summit in Lagos state, South West geo-political zone: Strengthening police reform project in Nigeria.”

Emmanuel noted that there have been series of workshops in the past which excluded the participation of the youth and as such, the solutions arrived at such workshops were unproductive and that was what necessitated involving them in the workshops.

“Before now, there have been series of Police reform activities and programs, and all these programs have excluded the most important group of persons, which are the youth. Those are the group of persons that are actually being abused by the police.

“These young people are the ones being arrested unlawfully. If you go to  police detention centre or correctional centres, who are the people there?”
