NNBA, CPC advocate consumers’ right

Nature-Nurtuerd Basic Academy (NNBA), student/pupils of Nature Nurtured Consumer Protection Fan Club in collaboration with Consumer Protection Council (CPC)  Friday held their world consumer Right Day celebration in Chukuku, a suburb of Kuje area council, Abuja-FCT. 

Speaking to Blueprint at the occasion, the director of studies, Mrs. Bethel Ojobor said the management and Nature Nurtured Consumer Protection Fan Club has annually joined the rest of the world in celebrating this day since, 2013. 

She said, this year 2020, the international theme has been chosen to be “Sustainable Consumers” which according to her, has much to do with the effects of human behaviour on the environment and on what we consumed. 

Mrs. Ojobor noted that, the activities in the school not only support the activities of consumers international in promoting consumer interest, but also support the mandate of the United Nations (UN). 

She said the celebration was highly appreciated by many consumers who attended the event and describe the exercise as a very worthy approach to making consumers know how to lodge complains in the face of any difficulty in service delivery. 

She started that, the collaboration with the consumer protection Council (CPC) would be continual because of the impact it has on the effective and efficient discharge of the school’s responsibility to the consumers. 

She revealed that, the school management would ensure that real complaints over service delivery are given all necessary consideration so that the already established relationship between CPC and NNBA can be sustained. 

Earlier in her speech, the Deputy Director, Consumer Education 

CPC, Mrs. Joy Lekwuwa, thanked the management and school fans for partnering with the council towards the advocacy design to address the abuse of customer trust. 

She said many customers do not have the knowledge, experience or accurate details of products and that is why the Consumer Protection Council would continue to propel the campaign, community campaign and town hall campaign on the need to educate consumers across the country. 

Professor Saint T. Gbilekaa of the University of Abuja who spoke on “Environmental Degradation” at the occasion advice Nigerians to avoid dumping objects or materials that are still usable and imbibe the culture of recycling them. 

Professor Gbilekaa who was represented by Jonathan Mark tasks Nigerians to also avoid deforestation but instead, should encourage a forestation. 

Head of Department, Environmental Education, University of Abuja, who was also a resource person at the occasion, said planting of trees promotes biodiversity and allows us to breathe better. 

She said trees lessen the effects of climate change and convert carbon to oxygen. He noted that the excess carbon would combine with other greenhouse gases to rapidly heat our earth. 

She stated that with so many trees destroyed, we must do what we can do to restore them and acknowledge their importance.
