Nigeria’s intractable insecurity

Speaking about security, Nigeria has, over the years, inarguably, been left far behind in this regard.

A couple of days ago, while scrolling through my news feeds on Facebook, I came across a post containing the attached screenshot by Malam Aisar Fagge, lamenting over the current insecurity in the country. He expressed how downcast he was to come to the realisation that bandits are even on TikTok, yet, not a single attempt has been made to track them.

We had had enough of this in the immediate-past President Muhammadu Buhari administration; and alas, worse before it. Enough is enough! It is high time this became history. There is the urgent need to chase “insecurity” back into its poor hole at a high speed.

Frankly, to say that I sometimes wonder if the government is really in the know that the level of insecurity in the country has derailed to such an extent that almost everywhere is unsafe is absolutely true.

However, to be candid, until the government wakes up from its deep slumber and goes on to deal fiercely with these marauding, cursed creatures, the country would always be in a state of quagmire.

Let’s be more focused on what matters the most to the country. It is high time bloodshed was brought to an abrupt end. The country has gone through a whole lot. It now has to be repaired. It cannot afford going through terrible times again.

Therefore, I call on the federal government to please go on to do the needful by taming the security challenges in the country.

Muhammad Abubakar,
