Nigerians’ll resist governors that misuse state police – Wadada

The chairman Senate Committee on Public Accounts, Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada, has allayed fears of Nigerians expressed in some quarters over the likelihood of some governors taking advantage of the proposed state police to harass and innocent citizen’s and the opposition.

He said that Nigerians will resist any governor who misuse state police against citizens if established.

Senator Wadada who  represent s Nasarawa west Senatorial district and holds the traditional tittle of Sarkin yakin keffi, stated this in an exclusive interview with blueprint on some national issues in Yola.

He threw his weight behind the  federal government’s decision to established state police in the country saying that, it is the only answer to Nigeria’s security challenges which is even  long over due.

“It is only when people tolerate and submit themselves to this that governors can deployed state police against them.

Every human being will take advantage of one position or the other, but it is left for the people to resist it.

“As it is today ,has Nigerians not resisted police in the past? Look at the end Sars crisis. So, I believe that any misused of state police will be resisted by Nigerians. But for now, we need state police and the advantages far outweigh the disadvantages.

“You don’t need rocket science to tell you that this is the way to go. Establishment of state police  is the only answer to Nigeria’s security challenges. For crying out loud, how on earth  can one million people police 250m citizens? The entire police men in Nigeria are not more than 1m and the VIPS  have taken greater percentage. So how can you have a secured system under such circumstances?”
