Nigerians drum support for electric vehicles use

The National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) wants Nigerians to begin to encourage the use of electric vehicles.

The Director General of NADDC, Mr Jelani Aliyu, affirmed that he knows of seven electric vehicles in Abuja as they can go for thousands kilometres without problems.

The DG who made this call at the just concluded 2019 Annual Conference of Commerce and Industry Correspondents Association of Nigeria (CICAN) in Abuja, says the country should have a rethink of electric vehicles because that is where the future is going.

He said the agency was partnering with Osuma Danfodio University, Sokoto, University of Lagos and University of Nigeria, Nssuka (UNN) on the development of electric car technology.

The DG also said the recent move by the Federal Government to revamp Ajaokuta Steel Company will give a massive boost to the nation’s automotive industry.

Earlier, CICAN Chairman, Frederick Idehai, said the conference was instituted as part of the association contribution to deepen the conversation around issues required to push the economy to an enviable level.
