What began as a sporting event ended as a powerful display of unity and partnership as personnel of Forward Operating Base (FOB) Formoso and members of its host communities came together for a novelty volleyball match to mark the grand finale of the Nigerian Navy’s 70th Anniversary celebrations.

Held on Saturday May 30, 2026, at the Base Volleyball Court, the event drew a vibrant crowd of officers, ratings, civilian staff, NYSC members, community leaders, and other invited guests.

The atmosphere was filled with excitement as both teams entertained spectators with a spirited contest that reflected the strong relationship between the Navy and the communities it serves.

While FOB Formoso eventually emerged victorious, winning three of the four games played, the true highlight of the day was the camaraderie and mutual respect displayed on and off the court.

The match provided an opportunity for military personnel and community members to interact in a relaxed environment, reinforcing the values of cooperation and peaceful coexistence.

The presentation of the championship trophy to the Base team was greeted with applause and celebration, bringing a festive conclusion to the week-long anniversary activities.

Speaking after the match, the Commanding Officer of FOB Formoso, Captain SK Haruna, emphasised that the event was more than a competition.

According to him, it served as a platform for deepening ties between the Base and its host communities while promoting friendship, understanding, and collective progress.

He expressed gratitude to all participants and supporters whose contributions ensured the success of the anniversary celebrations and reaffirmed the Base’s commitment to maintaining strong community relations across its area of responsibility.
