Niger communities sign peace accord over land dispute 

Governor Abubakar Sani Bello of Niger state, has intervened  and settled the age- long land dispute in Ja’agi community of Kede ward of Mokwa local government area of the state.

The governor in a meeting with the representatives of the community on Tuesday in Minna amicably  resolved that the warring kinsmen  would sheath their swords, bury their differences and allow peace to reign.

It was learnt that the meeting also resolved that the Etsu Nupe, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, should immediately appoint new village head for Ja’agi.

“That the up land belongs to the community while the low lands belong to families and households,” they resolved. 

The governor directed the deputy governor, Alhaji Ahmed Mohammed Ketso, to set up a committee to  assess the extent  of destruction of properties during the crisis for the purpose of ensuring support for the victims.

“All court cases and petitions should be withdrawn, while representatives should talk to their groups to ensure peace and tranquility at home,” they agreed.

In appreciation, the deputy governor, Alhaji Ahmed Mohammed Ketso, thanked the governor for the timely intervention and appealed to the people to eschew bitterness and embrace peace. 

Ketso urged the two warring factions to sheath their swords for peace, unity and progress of the people and the entire community.
