New Yobe governor declares state of emergency on education


The newly sworn-in governor of Yobe state, Mai Mala Buni, has declared state of emergency on education throughout the state so as to fight illiteracy and to also change the wrong ideology of the Boko Haram insurgents.

Buni, made the disclosure on Wednesday shortlyafter he was sworn-in as the Yobe state governor at government house.

He said the outgoing governor had done well in rebuilding schools burnt down by the insurgents and that his government would consolidate on the achievements made to provide scholarships to especially students of tertiary institutions.
According to him, the state of emergency is for primary, secondary and tertiary institutions in the state.

Other sectors the governor said he would focus on is provision of primary health care, recruitment of health personnel, procurement of 20 tractors to each of the 17 local government councils to boost agriculture, roads construction, commerce, among others.

He also assured that, his government will pay the approved N30,000 minimum wage, gratuity and pensions regularly.

In his valedictory speech earlier, the outgoing governor, Ibrahim Gaidam, called on the people of the state to rally round the new governor so as to reap dividends of democracy, assuring that Mai Mala is a trusted person.
