NBA urges police, NCS, others to make ACJA effective

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has called on the Nigerian Police, Nigerian Correctional Service and other law enforcement agencies to join hands and make the Bauchi state Administration of Criminal Justice Law a success.

 The call was made at the State Validation Public Forum on the Domestication and Implementation of ACJA 2015 in Bauchi state, which was supported by the MacArthur Foundation. 

At the public forum, the president NBA, represented by Barrister Victor Abasokam Ekim, explained the importance of the Administrative of Criminal Justice Law (ACJL) in the state.

He said in a statement by the NBA that, “it will decongest the Nigerian Correction Service Centres across the country,” adding that “it will also improve the condition of correctional service and accelerate criminal proceedings.”

He said the NBA “saw the need to start this three-year project to promote the widespread of a better administration of criminal Justice all over the Federation Administration of Criminal Justice Law.”

The solicitor General of Bauchi state, Barrister Dawood Mohmood Yakub, who represented the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Bauchi state, in his goodwill message, applauded the domestication of the administration of criminal justice in the state.

According to him, it is a great progress in the administration of criminal justice system in the state. 

The keynote speaker at the forum, Prof. Alphonsus Alubo  (SAN), said the objective of the law “as captured is to ensure the speedy dispensation of justice.”
