Nasarawa first lady champions fight against sexual violence


Nasarawa state first lady, Hajiya Silifat Abdullahi Sule, Tuesday, called for punitive measures against perpetrators of violence against women.
She made the called in her office, government house Lafia while playing host to a delegation from Adogi village, Lafia local government area of the state.

The first lady explained that she was committed to utilising all resources at her disposal to fight against all forms of violence against women and children in the state.

The delegation was in the first lady’s office to thank her on the role she played to ensure full recovery of baby Ruqayya Hashimu who was allegedly raped in Adogi by a 27-year-old man Ahmadu Yaro.
While calling on parents to be conscious of people who relate with their children at all times, Hajiya Silifat Abdullahi, said the survival of baby Ruqayya who was raped at the age of three months had given her a sense of fulfilment.
She stressed the need for security and other relevant agencies to redouble their efforts in tackling sexual violence especially against minors considering the psychological and long term effects on the victims.


Father of baby Ruqayya, Mallam Hashimu Aliyu, expressed gratitude to the First Lady for saving their daughter’s life by paying off the incured medical bill arising from the magnitude of injuries the baby sustained as a result of the rape.
