Monarch, Northern govs urge Nigeria’s unity

…Vagabonds, miscreants pushing for break-up – Shettima

Chairman of South East Council of Traditional Rulers and the Traditional Ruler of Mgboko Ngwa Amaise in Abia state, His Eminence, Dr Eberechi Dick, has called on Nigerians to continue to live as one indivisible entity.

Dick, who was physically present at last weekend’s Iriji Imo (Yam festival) which brought all traditional rulers in Imo state together, with some traditional rulers from other parts of the country, said only the unity of the country would see Nigerians through.

He described the event as “a good and remarkable one” which would go a long way in keeping the East, West, North and South together, considering the fact that the whole nation was represented at the event.

While commending the governor for making the event a success, he advised him to go a step further to unite Nigerian governors and make them to use that kind of platform to bring traditional rulers from all parts of the country together, “so that everybody would unite to fight for the nation and speak with one voice.”

Meanwhile, five Northern governors yesterday paid a visit to Imo state Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, and harped on the need to live peacefully as Nigerians. The governors, who were led on the visit by Governor Kashim Shetima of Borno state, also had on his entourage, Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto state, Aminu Masari of Katsina state, Atiku Baguda of Kebbi state and Solomon Lalong of Plateau state.

Shetima said they were in the South-east and South-south to demonstrate peace and harmony, and appealed to them to see that without peace it would be very difficult to progress in the country.

He charged them to embrace one Nigeria as a nation and disabuse their minds from divisibility.

Shettima described those calling for the disunity of the country as “vagabonds, criminals and miscreants” who never wanted the progress of the nation, adding that Nigeria was one nation that could not be divided “especially now that the country has found herself in this trial period of Biafra agitation and those of other ethnic groups.”
