Military truck ‘crushes’ tricycle driver, poly student to death in Damaturu; Buni launches probe

A Military truck has crushed to death a tricycle rider in Damaturu, the Yobe state capital. The truck also killed Usaina Bello, a 19-year old student of Federal Polytechnic Damaturu.
As at the time of filling this report, three others were hospitalised.

Some eye witness who spoke to Blueprint said the incident happened as result of violation of traffic light by either the military or the tricycle driver.

Baba Hassan Yusuf, brother to the deceased father said they would take up decision on the matter after the seventh day prayer of their killed daughter.

When Blueprint visited Hafsat Saleh at Specialist Hospital she expressed dismay on the development.

“We were going to visit our grand mother with my sister, on reaching a junction, the traffic light gave us green signal to pass, suddenly army truck came in and crushed us. I did not know what happened again until now that I came back to my senses.  The security men do not respect the traffic rules that is our biggest challenge,” she said.

Yobe state governor, Mai Mala Buni, and Brigade Commander of the 27 Task Force Brigade of the Nigerian Army had in a press statement commiserated with the family of the deceased and directed office of the Secretary to the State Government to investigate the matter to avoid further occurrence.

He further directed the state Ministry of Health and the hospitals management board to ensure that those who sustained injuries were given access to free medical care.
