Man ‘disappears’ in Imo over land tussle

The Aloysius Nwosu family in Ezeogwu Awo-Idemili, Orlu local government area of Imo state, Sunday bemoaned the “disappearance” of a member, Nwosu Marcellinus Chukwujekpe, following threats to his life.

A statement made available to Blueprint in Abuja Sunday, which was signed by a member of the family, Mr Chizoba Nwosu,  said  Chukwujekpe “disappeared” from the village over three years ago, following a land dispute and has been living under a false name. He allegedly pleaded to return for the sake of his old and sickly mother.

The statement reads in part: “The problem which led to the disappearance of Nwosu Marcellinus Chukwujekpe started over three years ago, when his grandfather left a piece of land to his late father, Aloysius Nwosu. The land is known to be fertile for agriculture and located at the bank of the river. However, after the death of his father and all burial rites were concluded, Chukwujekpe decided to take over the land as the first child of his father, according to tradition.

“This led to a lot of dispute from his uncles and threat to life: both spiritual and physical attack. An assassination attempt was even made twice on his life, leading to his abandoning his aged and sickly mother in the village and many times sought spiritual healing. Nevertheless, we later heard that he has changed his name from Nwosu Chukwujekpe Marcellinus to Samuel Ameg Kayode, to enable him hide from his extended family.

“To the greatest surprise of the family, since two months now, he is nowhere to be found. We want to use this opportunity to beg Chukwujekpe to return home for the sake of his aged and sickly mother. If there is any useful information on his whereabouts, the general public should contact the family or the nearest police station.”
